PB Alderman wants mandatory security cameras at businesses

Monday night, the Pine Bluff city council met to discuss the possibility of requiring security cameras in local convenience stores, gas stations, and restaurants.

I think the businesses should talk to their insurance co. and employees. Ins. rates come down and employees feel safer. Seems like businesses would do this just to protect themselves, their employees, and their customers. Hopefully the govt stays out, and maybe just bringing the issue up publicly is enough. [ I see a small business opportunity here... some off-site video surveillance storage for small businesses ]

So if a small business doesn't have the money for camera's they get a $1000.00 fine!! State and local authorities need to stay out of private business. I would never open a business here. If you want people to invest their money, they need to have their business plan, not the States of any other coalition! The small diner near me closed shortly after the smoking ban that was put in place for our own good. I haven't been out to eat since.

I know a woman with one business. A small business as far as they go. She has a problem keeping people. She has a security system that can be monitored in the office and her home. Pumping gas it's your picture and plate. Watches the employees and inventory. The thing will print a picture or video quick. The thing she does the best is send criminals to jail, recover her losses, and run a fine business. She told me one day in four years it had saved her many times it's cost. Her insurance has been cut nearly a quarter. I don't know if the expense isn't worth it.

@itsjustme - BINGO!!! This is simply the city trying to get private businesses to spend money on a problem that their tax dollars should be solving. But, until the citizens of Crime Bluff start electing people based on their qualifications rather than skin color, nothing will change.

I was thinking the same thing when I read the story. Some small businesses simply can't afford the cost of putting in security systems like camera's. I say let the city pay for them with the tax revenue they bring in from these businesses!

So this fine city wants to require a business to endure more financial problems by forcing them to spend thousands on security cameras. Why dont the leaders do something about the crime, then the need for the cameras wont be there.

I agree with the aldermen and the other city officials with trying to help try and get the crime rate down so that new businesses would consider relocating or moving back to the area. I personally dont live in Pine Bluff and if there is no businesses or customers to help bring in revenue the what good is it.
