PB Murder Victim's Foster Father Speaks Out

The 21-year-old died March 17. Pine bluff police investigators say he was shot in the 3000 block of Ash Street by a 16-year-old.
PINE BLUFF, AR-- Pine Bluff prepares to honor victims of violent crime Saturday, while the foster father of the cities' most recent murder is speaking out.

Samuel Evans still holds memories of his foster son, William Roby.

"He wanted to be somebody . His thoughts were I've done some bad things in life but I'm not a bad person," said Evans.

The 21-year-old died March 17. Pine bluff police investigators say he was shot in the 3000 block of Ash Street by a 16-year-old.

Evans says Roby graduated from Job Corps in Hot Springs.

"I'm still in a daze. I'm still in a state of knowing it did happen, but I'm still in a state of unbelief." said Evans.

Evans says he wants to use his foster's son's death as a way to encourage others to choose nonviolence.

"Death is final. If you shoot someone or injure someone, that's final. You can't take that back. You can feel remorse, but once it's done, it's done," said Evans.

The gun violence rally and citywide day of remembrance will be held from 11 am to 5 pm at Saracen Landing Lakefront.
