LITTLE ROCK, AR – The pro-life group Personhood Arkansas has submitted “amendment language” to the state that would effectively outlaw abortion in the state.

The group says their amendment reads: “"No innocent person shall be denied the right to life. With respect to the right to life, the word ‘person’ shall apply to all human beings, including the unborn, at every stage of their development."

A similar effort was defeated in Mississippi last November over concerns the amendment would have criminalized birth control and would have created a number of other unintended consequences.

Personhood Arkansas says their amendment would have no “effect on contraceptives or other methods of birth control that do not cause the death of a person.”

In Colorado, voters defeated “personhood” amendments in 2008 and 2010.

Personhood Arkansas must submit 78,133 signatures by July to reach the 2012 ballot.

Also - for those who want to know - text taken from the National Right to Life website concerning unborn victim laws.........for the state of Arkansas...."Arkansas: The killing of an "unborn child" of twelve weeks or greater gestation is capital murder, murder in the first degree, murder in the second degree, manslaughter, or negligent homicide. Ark. Stat. Ann. § 5-1-102(13)(b)(i)(a), read with Ark. Stat. Ann. §§ 5-10-101 to 5-10-105. (A separate Arkansas law makes it a battery to cause injury to a woman during a Class A misdemeanor to cause her to undergo a miscarriage or stillbirth, or to cause injury under conditions manifesting extreme indifference to human life and that results in a miscarriage or stillbirth. Ark. Stat. Ann. § 5-13-201 (a)(5)(a))........... 27 states consider death of an unborn fetus, child, or human being at ANY stage of development to be homicide. Only 9 states (including Arkansas) specifies "Part of the Period of Pre-natal Development".

Text taken from the Personhood Arkansas website:..."Personhood USA is about establishing the personhood of the unborn. Why? Well, anyone deemed a "person" is protected under the constitution and granted the rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. All humans are people, it's just common sense, and all humans deserve rights."...It seems to me that when you kill another person - you have taken away their civil rights of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. So why do we allow individuals to determine who gets these civil rights and who doesn't? When the teen-age or adult woman (and sometimes family) decides to abort her own child, she has just arbitrarily taken away the these civil rights of another human being - a human being unable to defend him/herself in a court of law. Allowing the unborn child to be born, and then potentially adopted - will grant this baby the access to these same civil rights.

Its not about Church or any Religon, it about TAKING RESPONSIBILITY for your actions. Murdering the most innocent of the People involved, because your Actions have created an inconvience is abhorable.

Look around you at all the church people that said no to the lottery and see how many are in line to buy their tickets.Church is good but they need to stay out of politics.I think a person should make their own decision on abortion or not.I myself never had to make that choice but it is MY right to have a choice. Do we really want to go back to when people died trying to get one, I think not!

Nothing says "Loss of your Civil Rights" and Right to freedom of choice then Church doctrine adopted as CIVIL LAW. NOW IS THE TIME TO TAX THE CHURCH POLITICAL. And since the Church wants to delegate what choices we make, why not 1 State run, State controlled and, State determined religion. BURN THE CONSTITUTION AND BILL OF RIGHTS TEAR UP CIVIL RIGHTS AND ALL CAN BOW DOWN TO THE APPOINTED GOVERNMENT SANCTIONED god. Step up and get your number tattooed on your forehead !

I was saddened when Mississippi failed to pass their version of this amendment. It is about time that we morally and ethically review our understanding and beliefs concerning this issue of abortion. Please take this time to review your beliefs, as we Arkansans will most likely be voting on this amendment to our constitution next Nov. I already know how I will vote, do you?
