LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Philander Smith College has chosen an Arkansas native as its new president.

Johnny Moore, who is originally from Washington, Ark., was named Friday by trustees as new leader of the traditionally black campus in Little Rock.

Moore is also a 1989 graduate of Philander Smith. He will leave his post as executive vice president of student affairs at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas.

Moore has a bachelor's degree in Math from Philander Smith, a master's from Arkansas State and a doctorate in math education at Florida Institute of Technology.

Moore had also served as vice president of student affairs at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Fla., where he had also been a tenured math professor.

Moore replaces Walter Kimbrough, who revitalized the campus during his seven-year tenure.
