Pine Bluff Crime Lowest In 7 Years

The second most dangerous city in the nation is making strides.
PINE BLUFF, AR -- The second most dangerous city in the nation is making strides. According to the Pine Bluff Police Department, statistics show crime is at its lowest in the past seven years.

Crime dropped 14 percent in August 2013 compared to August 2012, and it appears to be the trend as you back track to the beginning of 2013.

The crime stats surround homicides, rapes, robbery, assaults, burglary and thefts. Police say almost all areas are seeing a decrease compared to 2012. Rapes and attempted rapes have leveled out in 2013.

Police say with a new interim chief in place, their ability to work smarter and take on a new approach, had helped with the decline.

"More proactive approach in policing, probably morale. The drops during the summer in my opinion is probably due to a lot of our kids program we have," said Sgt. David DeFoor, Pine Bluff Police.

Police also have an analyst who provides them with statistics and maps, which help police locate crimes in the city. Officers say this helps them target hot spots and deter crime.
