PINE BLUFF, AR – Pine Bluff Police have arrested a man suspected of stabbing a woman to death and apparently kidnapping her daughter.
Firefighters responding to small kitchen fire Friday morning at 2121 S. Poplar Street found 39-year-old Shirley Owney stabbed to death on her kitchen floor. The police report says Owney’s 16-year-old daughter was also missing.
Police “followed the trail of evidence” two blocks away to an abandoned house at 1006 W. 21st Street. That is when police report they heard a young woman screaming. According to the police report, officers saw a man holding a knife pull a woman into a bathroom. Negotiators were able to contact the man, identified as 20-year-old Kevin McMiller, and “eventually he released the girl and surrendered.”
Owney’s daughter was taken to the hospital where she was treated for multiple stab wounds.
McMiller is in jail on no bond awaiting charges from the prosecutor’s office.
