LAKEVIEW, AR - A private small single engine plane crashed near the end of the runway at the Gaston’s Resort in Baxter County at 11:15am. It was reported that there were no injuries in the incident.

The aircraft, a 1974 Piper registered to a company in Texarkana, TX, was occupied by three people at the time of the incident, according to the Baxter County Sheriff's Office, and was piloted by 62-year-old Tony Clowers of Texarkana.

The sheriff's office says that the pilot was attempting to take off, lost lift, and overshot the end of the runway. The occupants, all from Texarkana, had been staying at Gaston’s for several days and were returning home.

The FAA has been notified of the incident and will arrive Wednesday to investigate.

The Pilot aborted the take off and ran out of runway before he could stop the plane.

I have flown in there twice, it is a tight landing strip and you need good weather and a dam good pilot, the take-off out of there will scare the pants off ya.

What ever the actual cause of this unfortunate, but miraculous non injury incident the FAA will most likely take the easy road to determination and blame the Pilot. Now ask me again WHY I dislike flying !

I think it's the way it lies in the valley of the river. I don't see no lift though with the air density. Probably over loaded.
