Police: 16-year-old is person of interest in scooter thefts

CONWAY, AR - University of Central Arkansas Baseball Player Garrett Bock woke up Thursday morning without a scooter. He got it back later in the day in a somewhat surprising fashion.

"You know, I don't, I don't tolerate people stealing things very well," explained Bock.

Turns out he's not the only one. Conway police say a 16-year-old is a person of interest in five scooter thefts just in the past week. That's a big deal in Conway, also known as the City of Colleges.

"You see them on the streets pretty much every day all day long," said Det. Jason Cameron.

Cameron went to question the 16-year-old Thursday morning, but the juvenile ran.

"He had me beat by a long shot," Cameron admitted. "I mean he's 160 pounds."

So Cameron called police dispatch. They asked him if he had any charges on the teen.

Cameron's responded, "Yes, I do. I want him in jail."

Long story short, police officers say they found the 16-year-old and a couple of the stolen scooters - including Bock's.

"I hope he pays for everything he's done," said Bock of the 16-year-old, "all the damage he's done and everything, and I hope he gets set straight."

The boy has not been charged with the scooter thefts, although police say that is likely. He has been charged with fleeing and also residential burglary - because when police caught him, they say he was hiding inside someone's home.
