Police Report No Life-Threatening Injuries in School Bus Accident

Police have confirmed that six Atkins Public School students and the driver of a pumper truck were taken to a Russellville hospital with non-life threatening injuries after a multi-vehicle crash involving a school bus.
POPE COUNTY, AR -- Police have confirmed that six Atkins Public School students and the driver of a pumper truck were taken to a Russellville hospital with non-life threatening injuries after a multi-vehicle crash involving a school bus.

The accident occurred this afternoon around 3:30 on Highway 64.  Witness reports and a preliminary inspection of the scene led troopers to suspect the school bus was stopped in the westbound lane of traffic, allowing students to exit the bus.

Behind the bus was the pumper truck, which was rear-ended by a log truck that had failed to stop for the traffic ahead.  This caused the pumper truck to impact the rear of the school bus
