SEARCY, AR. – Police say two men have been injured after gun was accidentally fired in Northern White County.

According to reports, police responded to an accidental shooting call at a White County home around 9:30pm on August 22. When they arrived, police found the victims, 30-year-old Jacob Morris and 32-year-old James Mitchell, suffering from gun shot wounds.

Police say Morris and Mitchell were sitting at a kitchen table while 44-year-old Allen Lee King was taking a rifle off of a gun rack attached to the wall in the bedroom. As he took the rifle down, it somehow discharged a single round that went through the bedroom wall and into the kitchen, striking Morris in the shoulder and hitting Mitchell in the chest.

Both men were transported to the White County Medical Center for treatment and are expected to make a full recovery.

The investigation is ongoing.

"How about checking your rifle for ammunition BEFORE hanging it back inside your house? Irresponsible and gives gun owners a bad name." Amen. While growing up in the rural Midwest during the 50s and 60s, if I had carried a loaded long gun into the house, I would have been looking for a new place to sleep.

Keep all mine loaded, ALL the time. But - I treat them as such ALL the time when handling them. I'm wondering if alcohol was involved. Guns and booze don't mix well. And then there are "accidents". Glad to hear both will recover. Pic is probably a "file" picture.
