PINE BLUFF, AR - "I never thought I was in any type of danger, I've lived in Pine Bluff my entire life."
Which makes what Marsha Coble witnessed at University and US 65 all the more shocking.
A man, who police say is 28-year old Courtney Lewis, was on a drug induced crime mania - behind the wheel to boot and out of control.
"And the third time around he crashed into that pole right there," Coble said.
"I call 911. I told the guy who was on the phone with me ‘Oh my gosh, he shot somebody in that vehicle’ and the guy on 911 says 'ok you need to get out of there, ma'am. Get out of there.’"
Coble did, driving to a nearby parking lot.
A few feet away, there was more carnage. A man was shot to death in an EZ Mart parking lot. Detectives say Lewis killed 51-year old Kenneth Davis as he sat in his car.
Officers arrested Lewis minutes later.
The crime is galvanizing community activists, including Reverend Jesse Turner, who'd like to see more drug interdictions.
"We need folks to step up and offer some kind of help because if they don't pretty soon Pine Bluff is going to dry up," Turner said.
"It's always been a safe zone for me," Coble said. "And to now witness something like that happening, it just changes my view."
Lewis is expected face two charges of attempted murder of a police officer.
Detectives say he resisted tazing and nearly drowned two officers before being brought under control.
