I have lived in Sherwood my entire life 31 years). I have been harrassed by many of the officers in the SPD for a lot of years. They do their job mostly, but there are some that are not doing that very well. I honestly think there are WAY to many cops on Sherwood's payroll these days. On the subject at hand I would like to know what the officer was even doing for this to happen. SPD loves to pull someone over and call in about 3-5 other officers that shouldn't be there period. With them occupied with something they dont need to be a part of they leave other things that could be happening in the city. The could be checking for speed limits or go on a call that needs an officer. Sorry to say but SPD has and looks to always be like this and its a shame......

@Think4Urself. All of the people that have responded to this article can THINK FOR OURSELF. Therefore we have different opinions. Mine just happens to be that the law should not be ABOVE the law. If it were me or you that caused this damage our names and pictures would have been released immediately.

Sure is a lot of finger point'n goin on. I guess y'all got the whole story from the local rumor mill so your able to pass judgment. If you were judged and convicted this way you'd be scream'n like a whipped child.

Sherwood PD procedure for the public is to assume that each person stopped is GUILTY. You can rest assured that YOUR name will appear in the paper or on the news. There is no investigation of the matter first and then information released. Sherwood cops are notorious for showing up like a gang of wild dogs when they may only need one officer. Back around 1994-96 I was driving on Longstreth Dr. in Sherwood, I noticed ahead of me at the end of Calloway Ave. there were several police cars surrounding a truck pulling a trailer. Knowing I would be in the way I turned on my turn signal to turn left, as I started to turn I heard a screeching sound and saw a Sherwood Police car skidding over the corner gutter. On the corner of Longstreth and Ridgelea. The officer got out of his car, mad as he could be. He had torn the crap out of his cop car. Turns out he was going to pass me to get to the other pile of officers who already had the matter under control. If you go to Longstreth and Ridgelea and see how close it is to Calloway you would see that the officer would have had to stop so quickly to avoid hitting his own fellow officers. I had a detective come to my house 2 different times to take my statement over this ordeal. I asked if I was in trouble, he said "No, this is just this officers 2nd time in a short amount of time to total out his car". The instance that happened yesterday is going to be yet another brush under the rug for SPD. Maybe someday they will be held as accountable as they hold us.

He was probably texting. We have a teen age driver and we always talk about not texting while driving. We were driving down Brockington and she looks over and said 'You need to be in the police car talking to him about texting and driving.' They are not in the practice of setting a good example!

The posted speed limit on Wildwood Avenue in that area is 30 mph. Judging by the damage, I'd bet he was doing at least double that! Police should be held to an equal, if not higher, standard than civilians, and you can bet if this was you or me, we'd be held responsible for our actions. (Tickets, insurance settlements, etc.) I fully expect the internal "investigation" to conclude that the officer wasn't in the wrong, possibly puts him on a PAID suspension for a week or two, doesn't release any dashcam video showing how fast the officer was traveling, and either the taxpayers of Sherwood or these homeowners get stuck with the bill.

if he wasnt participating in the high speed chase, what was his reason for driving so fast... like one of the above comments said...he was really hauling ass to hit a number of cars AND houses. intoxicated or not he was wrong and action should be taken. What makes law inforcement think that people will abide by the law if they won't and aren't being punished for their actions???

It's been 30 plus years; but I knew a family that lost a loved one to a speeding Sherwood cop on Kiehl. He didn't have his lights on either. And then there is intox's comment. Seems to be a serious problem that the Chief should look at. Good luck with that! Had a brother-in-law in Phoenix; he was a cop, and had a lead foot ALL the time; regardless of whether he was on duty or not. Professional courtesy I guess keeps them from getting a ticket. But in their defense; I can't go to the VA in LR without everyone passing me while I'm doing the speed limit. It's not just LEO's that have a great disregard for speed limits. It's a problem everywhere.

Funny how one officer suddenly makes the entire police department guilty. Everyone harps on innocent until proven guilty, yet you are the first to convict a person who puts his/her life on the line everyday to keep your city safe. There are always two sides to every story, I am sure the city of Sherwood will take the appropriate action. Also I know for a fact they require anyone involved in an accident to have drug screening completed. People need to realize everyone is human and accidents happen. I know it seems crazy to me as well, but I am not going to persecute someone when I don't know any details. I am glad no one was badly injured.
