FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Police in Fayetteville say no one was injured after a 5-year-old kindergartener chased children around a school playground and threatened to stab them with a pocketknife.

The Northwest Arkansas Times reports that the incident happened Tuesday afternoon during an after-school program at Asbell Elementary School. A school spokesman says the child wasn't enrolled in the program and that he walked to the playground by himself.

Sgt. Craig Stout says the child was waving the pocketknife and trying to stab the children. Teachers were able to take the knife away and no one was injured.

Stout says the boy told police he was trying to poke holes in the ground — not stab the other children. The incident has been reported to the Department of Human Services.

We could go on guessing all day long about what , why and how this happened. No one really knows enough yet. No doubt the home life needs to be looked into. I feel for this child and I hope this didn't happen because his parents are not fit to care for him. If so this was a blessing that no one was hurt and it will call the atention to the child that he needs to remove him from the home.

sounds like that kid thinks it's funny to scare people with a knife. I'm sure this is a learned behavior he has. probably thinks that there are no consequences for his bad actions... he probably has a horrible home life and has seen it first hand and is just mocking what he's already witnessed.

Why would you NOT call the police? I dont care if the kid is 5 or not, treat this as a serious issue or he wont learn squat from it. I agree with those that commented about the parents. Theres more to this story.

@ NitaC: actually it says they were at an after school program. It also says the kid was not enrolled in this program so they may not have known who the kid was in order to call the parents. But my question is where were his parents. Why is a 5 year olf walking from his home to the school in the first place????

Seriousely? This is how it should be: 1. Paddle Jr.'s butt, 2. Call parents 3. Jr gets home paddle butt twice! What is wrong with a school that calls DHS and police on a 6 year old. For Shame! As for teachers, get your butts back in the class rooms and TEACH! Stop using computers to do your jobs....from a former Substitute teacher!!!!! This country is out of control!
