LITTLE ROCK, AR – Democrat Drew Pritt has decided to not run against Tim Griffin for the 2nd Congressional District seat. This reverses his decision he made last week to challenge the incumbent congressman.

Pritt would have been the first openly gay candidate to run for a statewide office.

Pritt released the following statement about his reversal:

I have withdrawn from races before and it simply is a question of too many hurdles to overcome. I have my health first and foremost to consider. The fact I do not have the financial means to self-fund what will be a highly competitive race is an obstacle. And the fact a few people use the internet to spread malicious gossip and slander my name just is an added obstacle. In the end, I have to do what is right for myself, for my party, and for the people of the 2nd Congressional District and that is to withdraw my candidacy for U.S. Congress at that time.
