PARAGOULD, Ark. (AP) - Defense attorneys for a man charged in the death of a Trumann police officer are presenting their case to a jury.

Prosecutors wrapped up their case Tuesday in the capital murder trial for Jerry Lard, who's charged in the death of Officer Jonathan Schmidt.

Schmidt was shot to death during an April 2011 traffic stop.

During testimony Monday, Brian Elumbaugh said he was driving the car Schmidt stopped that night. Elumbaugh said he was ordered to get out of the car after the officer learned he had an outstanding misdemeanor violation.

The Jonesboro Sun reports Elumbaugh was in handcuffs when Schmidt went to the passenger side of the vehicle and he saw a "flash of light."

He alleged he saw Lard emerge from the car and fire at another officer.
