NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Most people show up to Reeves Recycling with pounds of scrap metal. But Friday morning, Pulaski County deputies arrived with a ticket in hand.

They say the company failed to report important information on a scrap metal site.

"There are actually vehicles brought in and we don't have the VIN on them so how can you tell if the vehicle is stolen," said Lt. Carl Minden, spokesman for the Pulaski County Sheriff's Dept.

State law requires scrap metal dealers to record specific information so police can track items if they're stolen.  Minden said Reeves Recycling left some areas blank.

"These may seem like nit picky violations but these are allowing people with stolen property to come out and dispose of it and profit off of it," said Minden.

Deputies cited the company for 153 violations.

"We thought it was transmitting the information that we wanted. We had no idea we weren't getting what they wanted," said Joe Bailey, co-owner of Reeves Recycling.

Bailey said they're still learning the system and will get with their computer technician to see what they're doing wrong.  Minden said no excuses because deputies have warned the company in the past.

"At a certain point how many times do you warn somebody before you take action?"

pulaski county pros atty will not try a stolen property case unless it exceeds 750.00 so most of your stolen property cases never make it past a slap on the wrist what a waste of time for this and other bussinesses who have to do the job of cops and unprosecuted robbers!!!!! small time thieves don't have worry about the law they just get another fine and another plea bargain

No VIN #'s on the autos.?? Its a fact there are a number of places on a vehicle that the VIN's are stamped. It just takes some dirty work to look and find them

The cops don't work this hard enough, I know Larry Alman personally and they fingerprint and photograph all sellers, he says they even "red flag" people but the cops don't follow up on these characters

Sounds lke major BS coming from Reeves scrap yard, every crook in Pulaski and surrounding counties know where to take hot scrap. The fine is probably a drop in the bucket compared to the price of scrap on the market. I am not saying Reeves is crooked but it does look suspicious.

AC copper theft has cost me two AC units I could not afford. I WONDERED WHY THE BUYERS WERE NOT BEING MONITORED...SOMEONE IS BUYING THE STOLEN SH... If a crackhead comes in with just enough to carry...it is stolen...I AM SURE THEY KNOW EVERYONE ON A FIRST NAME BASIS. I just imagine if you aren't a business with a license, you don't have scrap copper. Simple..
