LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The union representing teachers in the fiscally distressed Pulaski County School District has agreed to open negotiations on how to trim nearly $14 million from next school year's budget.

But the union on Thursday attached a list of 35 areas in which it wants district negotiators to provide financial information before going to the table on Wednesday.

The third-largest district in Arkansas was taken over by the state last year because of financial irregularities. On Monday, the state-appointed superintendent asked the Education Board to deem the district in fiscal distress because of the projected deficit.

The union wants to know how much the district spends on lawyers and consultants, and is asking for detailed budgeting information before opening talks.

both of my children attend a school that is in need of repairs there have been people there from the school board all week interviewing parents teachers and students about the school to see what to do next... why should leaking roofs, uncleaned gyms, and education issues even be questioned? fix the problems already stop talking about how you think it needs to be done and do it... while you wait children are walking through puddles of water coming home sick with infections and have low test scores. yeah it would be easy to pull my children and put them elsewhere but what about the others who's parents can't?
