A lot of us older people, and others, will not evacuate unless some provision is made for our pets' safety, too. I suggest an area in the shelter be set up to allow pets as long as they are contained in carriers. I also know that both Petsmart and Petco have been generous in other states during disasters, and often will help provide empty carriers for such use. My dog is very elderly, and I just couldn't leave him to suffer while I'm made comfortable.
