MAGNOLIA, Ark. (AP) — Southern Arkansas University says it will award a scholarship in honor of Credit Card, the rodeo team horse killed in 2011.

The school says the scholarship will be awarded to a rodeo team member beginning in the fall 2013 semester. The Banner-News reports that the foundation raised $15,000 to start the endowment for the scholarship.

SAU Foundation Director Jeanie Bismark says the school received an outpouring of support from people nationwide after they learned of Credit Card's fate.

Five horses were stolen from Mulerider Stables and Credit Card was later found with a slashed throat. A former rodeo team member, Jaci Jackson, faces theft and animal cruelty charges in the case.
