The story is confusing in that it makes no differentiation between homeless women and children and those who are victims of domestic abuse. Since I serve on the board of another shelter for domestic abuse victims, I know that they can take in a small percentage of homeless women and children, but the vast majority must be victims of domestic abuse if they are going to continue to receive funding from their grants. I can also tell you that government grants are limited and some must be matched by local donations to the shelters. Please don't think that they are completely government funded. People are often generous with donating clothing, furniture, etc., but sometimes don't recognize the need for monetary funding. Churches, in particular, should be involved in helping to fund these shelters. If they don't do God's work, I don't know who does.

A security guard who knows how to use a firearm would be a worthwhile addition as well.

Anyone proofreading? Please, take the apostrophe out of "it's"--the sentence should read " . . .of its own."
