Ah, pat77290, have you ever tried calling them. Expect to wait at least 20-30 mins, so would you be inconvenienced daily this way? I've been told by security it would be 45 mins on an escort. Yes, the gentlemen at Ualr have stepped up to look out for us women, but is that why I give Ualr a hefty sum? Part of our tuition is allocated to up keeping safety on campus. One can't just blame cops, way too many other factors contributing to the Ualr crime problem.

I am a Trojan, I bleed crimson. I am outraged. Patricia was abducted walking from some of the only free parking near the primary area of campus. What we have are full lots, paid parking, and semi legal off campus parking, all of which start with a long walk down a sometimes dark path Due to recent construction some very serious parking issues have developed. Unfortunately, it coincides with a surge of campus crime. As students we need to demand answers to some very critical questions. 1) Where was campus security that day and many other days when crimes are committed on or near campus? How many parking tickets did they write that day? 2) Speaking of parking, I see a fortune in new construction but no new parking? Compared to three years ago, how many spots do we have today? If you take away all construction on DSC, Welcome Center, new dorms, university plaza lot construction, all the retail spaces, and all the police spaces, how many do we have left? Is it proportional to student population growth? 3) Why do we have to pay for "safe" parking in an unmanned dark cramped garage? As a nontraditional student, my budget is counted in gas tanks. A month in the garage with my schedule is more than a gas tank, anybody else have kids to feed? 4). It has been reported to me that the wait time has been more than 20 mins on a voice reply to an emergency phone, what measures can we take to improve in this area? Areas near university ave have no phones. Can we do better? 5) What can we do to limit the non student traffic flow? With the understanding many students ride the bus, couldn't we reach an agreement with the city to designate that stop for UALR students? What about more patrol at the gates during school hours?Many times students are harassed, sometimes robbed, and now abducted. Every year tuition goes up. I am content with a small amount of inflation if the safety was a strong as the new construction. I could safely enjoy a truly excel

Compared to 5 years ago, where do we stand on open parking? Fancy new buildings which consume money, raise tuition, and limit parking... 2) Where was campus security. How many parking tickets did they write that day? If Admin did not have their vulture suits on, would Patricia and countless others not be victims of crime on and near campus? 3) Why is our safety less important than that of Administration? Shouldn't they be subject to at least some of the issues students face, like battling for safe parking and walking in the dark a 1/2 mile or better to parking? Should we really have to pay for safe parking? UALR offers a dark, cramped, paid parking. Do to new construction, it is really inconvenient to get to and it costs more than many commuter students can afford. It becomes a question of pay your bills or park safely. How about Admin spend a month in open parking, no deck or hang tag? 4). Do we really hate the smokers enough to force people to stand outside the safety of campus gates? Is there another safer option? I don't like smoke, but I love my UALR family. Wouldn't a small out of the main path area within patrolled grounds suffice? Having kids on corners in a rough area is unsafe. They are not quitting anytime soon and standing on the street corners is like advertising yourself to the many street people swarming the area. 5) What can we do to reduce the traffic flow through campus of non UALR people? Is a city bus stop and an open cut through to shady neighborhoods a good idea? I comprehend that people need to ride busses, maybe the stop on campus should need a Ualr buss pass 6). Response time for emergency phones has been reported to be more than 20 minutes, what can we do to improve this? Just some thoughts to chew on. Please stay safe out there.

I agree with all of the posts that everyone else has stated. I went to class on Monday evening and the UALR PD lived up to my expectations...they were nowhere to be found. I did not see ONE...going to class or leaving class. The professor was so worried that she made sure we left class before it got dark, and we would have had about an hour left. UALR is about UALR..and the money, and that's the bottom line!

After I watched this story last night, I got aggreveted by how the administration @ UALR hype up the call boxes across the campus, however there is not call boxes @ any of the entrances of the campus where we enter and leave nor are they on any of the parking lots that are right off campus approved for students to park on. The ones of us that have not even made on to campus yet, what about us??? They charge us for everything else, why not that??

I SEE NO REASON WHY SECURITY CAN'T CRUISE TO A REQUESTED LOCATION ON CALL. I imagine that there are regular times when people are leaving the buildings walking to cars...as well as walking to public bus stops. THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO CRUISE ALL BASES. Funny I see them off campus all the time when I am in the area...CRUISIN'...I need a job like theirs. I am 73 and I bet I could do a good job of watching my patrol area.

Ironically, there have been no UALR Campus Police on Univeristy, Fairpark, Asher nor 19th street with their pretty blue lights on. Perhaps they are on campus WHERE THEY BELONG!! It's a shame it takes a tragedy to happen before they will do their job for the sake of saving face. Believe me, their presence on the campus will only last a few weeks. THen they will be back out policing LRPD streets. They get to do that because UALR owns property that extends their jurisdiction to University, Asher, Fairpark and 19th Streets. CAMPUS SAFETY FIRST!!!! But again, they have to justify them NICE DODGE CHARGERS....

The issue with safety lies soley in the hands of the campus police. As they cruise around in their brand new Dodge Chargers that they are making the CITIZENS of Little Rock and surrounding cities pay for. How are they doing that? I'm glad you asked. If they would not spend ALL their days and nights policing University, Asher, Fairpark, and 19th Streets harassing and ticketing civilians who travel those roads daily, the death of Patricia could have been prevented ALONG with all other crimes that happen on campus. That is how the citizens of city the Little Rock and surrounding cities are paying for those NICE UALR Police Dodge Chargers! I am a student at UALR. My last class ends at 8:40PM. When I leave my class to walk to my car, there is NOT a UALR Campus Police in site. Oh but wait....when I get to my car and turn on University, there's two UALR Police cars with there lights on someone they have pulled over on the lott where Pizza Hut is...and when I travel down a little further to 19th Street, ahhh there ANOTHER UALR Campus Police on the parking lott of Pop A Top Liquor Store with his Lights on someone he's pulled over. While they are out ticketing and harassing on the local streets, students are being victims of crimes we pay the police to keep us safe from. Granted, they can't be at all places on the campus at all times, ALL we as students want is for their presence on the campus to be as prevelant as their presence is on University, Asher, Fairpark and 19th Streets! Last I checked, there AIN'T no classes or students on those streets!

MYLIFE....YOU CALL security before you leave and ask for an escort. I am sure they are able to provide that. They better be. I have a grandaughter at UALR and I will expect her to do that. If they have to fill a security car with students and drop them off!!! that is what they should do. GINA...I see no reason why security can't meet the busses that are bringing students. I am sure they could!! and certainly take you to a bus if you have to walk alone! What else are they doing but cruising??? CALL THEM!!! NO STUDENT..ESP. WOMEN...SHOULD BE WALKING AWAY FROM THE BUILDINGS ALONE!!! If this is the case, SECURITY can't be that busy. Certainly the men on campus should be as helpful as they can in escorting the women. I'm a student at UALR. The problem is that the campus police spend day and night cruising University, Fairpark, Asher and 19th Streets in an effort to harass and ticket civilians who travel those roads daily. When I get out of my class that dismisses at 8:40PM, THERE IS NOT A POLICE OFFICER IN SITE!
