Saline County Sheriff Apologizes for His Weekend Arrest

Bruce Pennington was picked up on a public intoxication charge Saturday night.
BENTON, AR - A Central Arkansas sheriff arrested over the weekend has apologized for the incident.

"I made a mistake. I'm human and I apologize to the people of Saline County," Sheriff Bruce Pennington said in a Monday afternoon news conference.

Pennington was arrested by Benton Police Saturday night. They say he was charged with public intoxication, along with refusal to submit to arrest.

Police say witnesses at Denton's Trotline restaurant reported a man who appeared very intoxicated and getting into a vehicle.

Once officers arrived, they found Sheriff Pennington and took him into custody.

"I will continue to run the Sheriff's Office and make it (Saline County) a safe place to live," the sheriff also said.

Sheriff Pennington told reporters he had had two drinks, saying further "I was texting a friend to come and pick me up."
