Scholarship named in UALR student's honor

LITTLE ROCK, AR -- The death of Patricia Guardado is much on the minds of students at UALR. The campus newspaper stand filled with stories recounting her last moments alive.

Friday night, the Little Rock League of United Latin American Citizens remembered her life in a different way by announcing a scholarship endowment. Carlos Cervantes says it's a small gesture to celebrate the 20-year-old, who friends say had a promising future.

"To me personally, it's really gratifying. It's something that is from the heart especially to her parents knowing that there is something for this young lady," said Cervantes.

Guardado disappeared several weeks ago on her way to class. Police found her car in a parking lot near the school. A fisherman found her body days later in a pond in a remote area of Pulaski County.

With police investigating Guardado's death as a murder, Cervantes says the group felt obligated to remember her.
