LITTLE ROCK, AR-- Wednesday, school resource officers from across the state gathered for training before the start of the new school year.
The Criminal Justice Institute-University of Arkansas Systems held training exercises for 32 school resource officers.
Joe Chavalia is the trainer and says the sessions are important.
"These involve physical skills and physical skills are perishable. So by continuing to do the training, we are keeping those skills up at a high level," said Chavalia.
Officers say the training is something they hope will never be used. But just in case, officers are ready.
"It teaches tactics and techniques that an officer can use by himself to handle an active shooter incident," said Chavalia.
