SEARCY, AR. – Officials from Searcy Police Department, with the help of the Arkansas State Police and the White County Sheriff’s Office, made 18 arrests at a safety and sobriety checkpoint on Friday night, according to a release.

Over a span of four hours at two locations, police report 18 arrests including two for driving while intoxicated, four for drug-related offenses, five for driving on a suspended license, and seven on outstanding warrants.

Across the country, it is illegal to drive with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 grams per deciliter or higher. According to the latest data, nearly a third of fatalities in motor vehicle traffic crashes involved a driver or motorcycle rider with a BAC above the legal limit – an average of one fatality every 48 minutes.

If our government were to be taken over by Communists, this wouldn't become any more of a police state than it is now. Here in Jefferson County we're living under martial law, but government authorities have not yet made an official announcement about that to the general public.

What is the word for having no laws and no one to enforce them? I think the word is Anarchy. Some people only want some of the laws enforced but not the ones they don't like. Driving is a privilege and if the ones caught driving illegally would wipe out a family by doing so,I think the comments would be different. I hope so.

It would be interesting to see how many they would catch driving on suspended licenses and have outstanding warrants if they did this on Geyer Springs or Baseline Rd.. I heard Maumelle police are getting ready to do the same thing on Country Club Ln. with the all the new HUD apts. on Counts Massie now, so that will be the next news story.

It's quite possible that the five that were arrested for suspended driver license didn't even know they were suspended. And how do you know the the people with warrants on them were dangerous? Most often, warrants for not not making payments on a fine.

Were the ones running the check point sober. I think with all the officers in the news with their under the cover mess ups they should have to pass the same test they want to put others through. I wonder how many would fail.

Good job officers, to bad you didn't catch more of them. And you know there we're way more then you caught. Keep my family as well as others safe by keeping these people that have no regard for life off the streets.

protector, yes it should be illegal but it's not. Police state bs. If they are really worried about dui, then they would park their cars outside of the bars/clubs and wait to see the drunks stumble out of the bar and into their vehicle.

So 2/3 of the arrests had nothing to do with being impaired while driving? Sounds more like an illegal search operation.
