SEARCY, AR – The Searcy Police Department made an arrest in three arson incidents Tuesday night.

The first fire happened around 8pm at The Mayfair apartments at 101 N. Spring. Tenants were evacuated from the apartment building and the fire was extinguished.

A vehicle behind the building was also on fire. A witness saw a man leave the vehicle after it started smoking. The man was identified as Audley “A.J.” King, 27, of Searcy, but he was not located at the scene.

About an hour later another fire was reported at 214 S. Elm Terrace. The apartment King was reportedly staying in was on fire but was also extinguished quickly.

Searcy Police received a call a short time later reporting a possible break-in at the White County Courthouse. King was arrested at the scene on three counts of arson.

This case is still under investigation.

His mother, my aunt, just died on Dec. 22nd. He totally flipped out! Not justifying what he did & know he may have to do jail time, but he really needs some psychiatric help. Media failed to report that after he did these things, he was found with a string or rope around his neck unconcious! Now, his sister Kim is telling me that instead of the police taking him to a facility or calling in a crisis counselor to the jail, (Which I know for a fact they do in attempted suicides, because I worked briefly for a behaviorial healtth clinic!) they took him straight to jail, it was discovered that he had a huge amount of the sleep aide called "Ambien",in his system, which has a side affect causing some people to do things they would not ordinarily do, and not even remember it! (I too, know of others who have had bad experiences with this sleeping medication!) The police have told his sister she has to go to the judge to fill out a form requesting help for him? Something is wrong with this picture folks! I told her to go to Health Resources of Arkansas to see if they can help her and her brother! Get him help, some medication, then let him pay for his crime if a jury says he should! He either needs a little more or a little less medication, the boy ain't right. He could have gone down the road to Pangburn and gotten by with it since they don't have a plice department any more-LOL
