SEARCY, Ark. (AP) — A sales tax on hotels, motels and restaurants will be on the ballot in Searcy this fall.
The Searcy City Council voted Tuesday to put the tax on the Nov. 6 general election ballot. The Daily Citizen reports that proceeds from the tax would pay for the development, construction and maintenance of the city's parks and recreation facilities.
If approved, a 3-cent tax would be levied on hotels and motels and a 1-cent tax would be levied on prepared foods.
The tax would not go into effect until July 1, 2013.
Members of the council initially tried to delay voting on the measure but eventually approved the resolution on a 7-0 vote.
