Senate Overrides 12-week Abortion Veto

The Arkansas State Senate voted 20-14 Tuesday to override Governor Beebe’s veto of the 12-week abortion bill.
LITTLE ROCK, AR – The Arkansas State Senate voted 20-14 Tuesday to override Governor Beebe’s veto of the 12-week abortion bill.

The House will take up the veto override Wednesday at the earliest. They could pass the bill into law with a simple majority.

Beebe vetoed the “fetal heartbeat bill” Monday, citing constitutional concerns and cost to the state to litigate challenges to the law in court.

The governor vetoed a similar bill that would ban abortions past 20 weeks using the same rationale. Both the Senate and House voted to override that veto.
