CONWAY, AR – Conway police are conducting what is described as a sex offender round-up. It continues after getting started a couple of days ago.

The first arrest so far is 25 year old Devin Kyle Johnson. Conway police say Johnson could not be found at his registered address. Relatives told them he had not lived there in over a month.

Johnson contacted Conway Police this morning and voluntarily went to police headquarters for an interview. He admitted having problems with relatives at his registered address and said he has been staying with a friend on North Gate Drive in Sherwood. Johnson was arrested for violating reporting requirements and booked into the Faulkner County Detention Center. He has since bonded out and reported to Conway Police as required.

The Devin Kyle Johnson was convicted of three counts of fourth degree sexual assault in July of 2009 and sentenced to five years probation.

Education would be helpful here. You say registrants are "un-rehabable" but lets see if you can comprehend the results of studies: Research shows that almost half (49%) of youth under age six and 42% of children ages 6 to 11 were sexually assaulted by a family member. (Justice Policy Institute, Pg 15) A study reviewing sex crimes as reported to police revealed that: 93% of child sexual abuse victims knew their abusers 34.2% were family members 58.7 % were acquaintances Only 7% of the perpetrators of child victims were strangers 40% of sexual assaults take place in the victim's own home 20% take place in the home of a friend, neighbor or relative (Lynn University, Pg 6) I don't know if you are familiar with the ATSA Organization, for those unfamiliar that stands for Association for Treatment of Sex Abusers and some really enlightening studies have been published recently; Dr. Jill Levenson - Collateral Damage; Family Members of Registered Sex Offenders, Rockwood Psychological Group (Canada) - Rehabilitating Sex Offenders - A Strength Based Approach, Tabachnick & Klein - A Reasoned Approach - Reshaping Sex Offender Policy and Dr. Eric Imhof - Sex Offender: Sorting out Myth From Truth. As many professionals know the "stranger" danger is irresponsible and is misguiding the parents and general public. Since the recidivism rate for a registrant for another "sexual" offense is 5% the media, law enforcement and legislators are putting the emphasis in the wrong place and that should be corrected. If you truly want to address the situation educate children and teens on ways to protect themselves from the abusers closest to them...dad, brother, uncle, grandfather, mother, neighbor, scout leader, priest..... Good, lock the animals up, the law is far too lax on these un-rehabable pigs

I have a level 4 about 10 houses from me. We watch in shifts when our grandchildren are visiting. I hate people that hurt children.
