BLACKFISH, Ark. (AP) — The St. Francis County Sheriff's Department is investigating the drowning of a 6-year-old boy.

Authorities say Chance Anderson went missing Sunday night from his home in the Blackfish area. His father told authorities that he found the boy near the water's edge of a pond.

Authorities say the boy's father pulled his son from the water and performed CPR until emergency officials arrived, but the child still died.

Sheriff Bobby May tells the Times-Herald that the death is under investigation but authorities believe it was an accidental drowning.

May says it appears Chance wandered out of the yard and into the pond.

Sad, very sad. The family has my condolences and prayers. The poor father will never get this day out of his mind.
