It was standing room only at the Sherwood city council meeting, a room divided between the neighbors at the Park Crest apartment complex and people who live in the Austin Lakes by the Bay subdivision.

Very poor job of leadership by the Mayor, everyone just needs to remember this when she wants to spread her legs for the next sales tax increase or election

Park Crest Apts are full of NOTHING BUT TRASH, GHETTO, GUN-CARRYING, DRUG DEALING THUGS!!!!!!!! The Mayor of Sherwood should be more concerned with the drug dealings going on in the apartment complex then tearing down a fence!

I drive by this fence every single morning. the old fence was tore down and a new one is put up. The old one was falling apart, boards were missing and it was being held up by other boards. The new one is nice. i honestly dont see what the deal is. If Austin lakes wants to keep the parkcrest commuity out , they need to pay for a brick wall. I just dont get the problem here.

This scares me to death and the subdivision residents who are featured in this video should feel shame. Listen to the comments made by the gentleman in the meeting with 45 seconds left in the video. This story was disturbing enough when I thought they were talking about a fence keeping people out, these people want the city to build and maintain a fence keeping people "in". That would create a ghetto and we are not talking about an Highland Courts type ghetto, this is would be a real ghetto, a "Warsaw Ghetto". If the people of Austin Lakes by the Bay want a fence they have every right to one, they can build it with their money on their property. People do it all of the time, it is called a gated community but that type of community should never fall under the control of any form government. You cant have tax-dollars being spent on roads and utilities that the people of that city, and then deny access to those helping to pay those taxes. That is just wrong. As far as wanting to be reimbursed for money private citizens spent to repair the fence: did make them spend this money? They decided the fence was inadequate and acted on their own. Did they receive approval from the city? How did they do the "repairs"? Ask yourself, What would happen if you decided that the Sherwood P.D. and Court Complex needed some sprucing up and just showed up one day and started painting green? You would be arrested for vandalism or destruction of property. Ms. Durbin says: "When we have bullets coming through from Parkcrest through two fences, into our... neighborhood". Those bullets had a definite starting place, a definite path, but went somewhere non specific? Would she happen to have a police report on that or a similar incident? Did the police do some sort of reconstruction to determine where these bullets that ended up in the neighborhood were fired from? I also love the guy who says the apartment complex should be declared

There are more important things going on than y'alls fence. The rest of Arkansas don't really care about the little fence. Get over it, build a new fence or move.

This issue is not about a fence. The Mayor of Sherwood wants the issue to be about a fence in order to pit neighbors against neighbors to avoid dealing with the real issue. The problem not being addressed is the city’s failure to enforce code dealing with multi-family residences. In this case, the owners of the Park Crest Apartments have been negligent in maintaining the property up to published code requirements. Concurrently, crime statistics for the area are considerably greater than similar type apartments in Sherwood. Is there a correlation? Who knows? The least the Mayor can do is ensure published codes are enforced. Unfortunately, she seems content to let this situation spiral into an "us against them" battle between her constituents...so long as it distracts attention from the city's shirking its responsibility with regards to the ownership and operations of Park Crest Apartments.
