Fire fighters pinpointed the origin of a blaze that swept through Little Rock's Adult Leisure Center Sunday morning. However, they are still searching for a cause. The building is a loss but they did manage to recover some of the its contents.
The Adult Leisure Center on 12th Street in Little Rock is off limits after a fire destroyed the building early Sunday morning. The Northwest Corner of the building is where the Little Rock fire marshal tracked the origin of the flames. The team is still sifting through the ashes to find out how it started.
Another question is what to do about events planned as far out as 2010?
"First we'd like to try to relocate them to other facilities around the city, if we can't do that of course all of those funds will be refunded," says Truman Tolefree with the City of Little Rock Parks and Recreation.
Just looking around its hard to believe they could find anything intact inside this building but they were able to salvage some very historic items. Several items and other 16th century artifacts on loan from the Museum of Discovery withstood the flames.
"I was just relieved to see and of course glass, the damage would be overheating but the firemen got in there and we just have some wet glass we just have some dishwashing to do when we get back," says Marcie Bynam-Robertson with the Museum of Discovery.
Tolefree with Little Rock Parks and Rec says it'll take more than that to save items belonging to the center. The fire damage is so thorough, he doubts they'll find much but he's optimistic they'll rebuild.
The Adult Leisure Center was built in 1991 and is one of the most popular event centers in the city. Tolefree says if you've reserved the center please contact them at 371-4770 to make plans for relocating or to get a refund.
