Speaker Davy Carter Closer to Decision on Gubernatorial Run

The race for governor in Arkansas is getting crowded quickly, with already five announced candidates some 18 months from the election.
LITTLE ROCK, AR -- The race for governor in Arkansas is getting crowded quickly, with already five announced candidates some 18 months from the election.

And now there's one more candidate considering a possible run.

It's quickly becoming the worst-kept secret that House Speaker Davy Carter is on the verge of making a decision whether to run for governor.

Carter joined his House and Senate colleagues for a roundtable discussion Wednesday afternoon at the rural development conference in Hot Springs.

Before the discussion started, Carter spoke to KARK 4 about where he stands in his decision process.

"I've mostly made a call internally with my friends and family, and just going through a few more stages of the analysis, but I'm going to bring this to a head either way this week. It's time to either get in or get out," Carter said.

Carter is scheduled to address the Political Animals Club in Little Rock on Friday, and there's a good chance we'll know by then if this crowded governor's race will have another contender.
