LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Using a GPS based dating app is how Sam Hyde met his fiancée, Nina.
"I was a little skeptical at first," said Hyde.
When sam "checked in" through his app, he found out Nina was standing in line just a few steps away from him.
"We just locked eyes and it was love at first site," said Hyde.
A survey of providers found the trend is taking off. Each app works a little different. But there are safety issues.
"You don't know who you're dealing with and if you're dealing with a photo. You don't know if it's that person's photo or if it's real," said investigative consultant Alan Rosenthal.
Sam says he had a frightening experience when a man posed as a woman.
"I could very easily have been in danger," said Hyde.
Sam now knows the risks and rewards of GPS dating.
"It's the future," said Hyde.
Here are some more safety tips about GPS dating:
1. Always meet in a public place.
2. Always make sure someone knows where you are.
3. Just because you meet via GPS dating, that doesn't mean you have to meet on the spot. You can always set up another time to meet in person and perhaps email or talk on the phone first.
