Star football player remembered

MALVERN, AR - Saturday, friends and family of James King gathered to remember his life in Malvern.

The 19-year-old star football player died last month after disappearing in Lake Catherine.

At King's his funeral, his coach called him an outstanding person on and off the field.

"Everybody had seen him play knew he had the ability to go to the next level. That was what his dreams were. That's what he knew he wanted to do," says Malvern High School head football coach John Fogleman.

James King played football at Southern Arkansas University, was a stand-out athlete at Malvern High School, and Saturday, his former coach remember him as an all-around good person.

"As smooth as he was on the field, he was smooth off the field. Whenever I get an email from a teacher, about 99.9% of the time, somebody's done something wrong. I never had to worry about that from James," says Fogleman.

King's former teammates filled the Malvern High School auditorium Saturday morning as his pastor tried comforting them.

"He knew the true meaning of friendship and never counted the cost of loyalty. Great young man. There are many in his immediate surroundings who weep today, for they have lost a true friend," says Dr. J. N. McCollum.

"God's all knowing. I know I don't have to tell him this, but just in case he needs help, you know, Lord if you need a play, get it in his hands. Get that ball in his hands. He's smooth," said Fogleman.

And one last time, for King, his coach and teammates "stacked up" just like they did at King's request before every game.
