Student stabbed at school expected to recover

School officials in Magnolia say a junior high school's metal detectors weren't in use this week when a student was stabbed by another student who brought a knife to school.

I remember when kids were allowed to carry pocket knives to school..Didn't see any school stabbings back then.

Having a security device and not using it is about as smart as wiping your butt before you poop. Good move on the administrations part. Fire the idiot in charge of this.

What is sad is that we need metal dectors at school??? Good grief but since we do then why aren't they using them everyday! Makes no sense to install such a thing because you need it, then not use it.

Well that makes sense! How does a district "know" when there's a threat so they can turn on the dang metal detectors? Wouldn't a policy where the metal detectors are used on various days during the week make more sense? Oh maybe even use them daily (gasp) to verify there AREN'T any "possible threats"? I suppose if they were in use daily the citizens of Magnolia wouldn't feel as though they are exempt from all the big city violence.
