BLYTHEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Authorities in Blytheville say a teenager has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 21-year-old man.

The Blytheville Courier News reports that police received several reports Monday night of shots fired. Once there, officers discovered 21-year-old John Smith, who was lying on the ground after suffering a gunshot wound.

Capt. Scott Adams says Smith was able to speak with officers before he was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Witnesses told police that Smith got into an altercation with two others and that a man was seen fleeing the area while carrying a gun. Police searched the area and arrested the 17-year-old in connection with the death.

Police say the teen is due in court Wednesday morning.
