LITTLE ROCK, AR - The man accused of
running over and killing a 14-year-old boy offered money to the teen before the incident, according to the just-released police report.
Michael Sadler told police that he went to the Asher 1 Stop gas station and asked two boys if they could help him find a man who stole his gun earlier from the Acme Motel.
Sadler said he pulled out his wallet, which contained $1300, showed it to the boys and offered them money if they helped him find the man. That's when Michael Stanley reached into the van, grabbed the wallet and took off, according to the police report.
Surveillance video from the Asher One Stop captured the encounter in the street behind the store. Two boys on bicycles ride up to what appears to be Michael Sadler's minivan. After a brief interaction, the boys -- including 14-year-old Michael Stanley Jr. -- take off. The driver of the red mini-van takes off after them.
"That man is almost 60 years old. He has no business having any dealings with any child," Michael Stanley Sr. said.
After police took Sadler into questioning, he admitted to police he chased the teen. Then, Sadler tells investigators he bumped the bicycle and felt a bump. As the teen lay on the ground, Sadler said he picked Stanley up by his clothes, hit him in the face and moved him with his foot, demanding his money back. Two bystanders told Sadler to back away, and then police arrived.
Stanley died at the hospital. His father is now demanding justice.
"Our family wants him to pay for his life like my son did. And we will make every court date as soon as it goes to circuit," said Stanley.
We watched the surveillance with Stanley's dad. Although Sadler claims he didn't intend to hurt the teen, Stanley Sr. thinks otherwise.
"He chased him down for that long and his intentions were to kill him and that's what he did and we want him to pay with his life," said Stanley.
Sadler is charged with first degree murder. A judge set his bond at $1 million.
Sadler says he chased the boys and they split up but he caught up with Stanley, bumped the bicycle with his vehicle and felt a bump. Sadler says he picked Stanley up by his clothes and hit him in the face, moved him with his foot and kept yelling to give him his money.
The boy had blood coming from his mouth, his eyes were rolling back in his head and he wouldn't answer, Sadler said.
Sadler told officers he didn't intentionally hurt the boy, he just wanted his money back.
Police have charged Sadler with 1st degree murder in the incident. He has pleaded not guilty. His bond has been set at $1 million.
