TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) — A Texarkana teenager accused of shooting his stepfather to death has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.
Kenan Strange entered the plea Tuesday in Miller County Circuit Court. Strange is accused in the Dec. 3 shooting death of his stepfather, Frank Patrick Duggan. Authorities say Duggan died from a single round fired from a shotgun.
Prosecutors claim Strange shot Duggan because the man was inside a garage in which Strange had been living with his girlfriend. But Strange told police that the two argued and Duggan grabbed the barrel of the gun before it fired a round into Duggan's neck.
The Texarkana Gazette reports that Strange is currently free on bond and is due in court for another pretrial hearing in May.
