A lot of people have no idea what kind of a person it takes to willingly join the military. I probably would have been drafted, but I chose to enter at my own free will. Both sides of my family have long, rich, deep military backgrounds. I didnt do it for the glory, I did it for the pride. I'll lay good odds that the majority of these punk ass thug criminals wouldnt make it through basic. Way to many cowards out there today. They claim to be a bad ass because they walk through a ghetto at 2 a.m. and rob someone or shoot a defenseless store clerk. Does that make them "a man"? Hell no. They wouldnt make a pimple on a real mans ass.

knickknack; Nope; too old for the Middle East, I served in the US Army from 71 to 74. My AIT class was the first that didn't send anyone to Nam; the class before us, half went. I "retired" as an Spec 4 after 3 years. Dad on the other hand, wounded in Korea, and a tour in Nam; so I do know a little bit about these things. And he did 30; retired a SGM. And if you are going to have a draft, you are going to have drugs; it was the time and place for it back then. Dude, got nothing for you today. Got my VA disability check today, so I'm planning on a good day. Heading out to vote here shortly. Hat's off to ya itsjustme!

knickknack and DudeIII, Cambodia, Portuguese, Brazil, Vietnam, Korea, Guam. Thats a very small list of places I got to visit in the 70's, and I promise you, it was no picnic. I've been to Pakistan, Afghanistan and the Middle East, during times more extreme than now. (yes, it use to be worse their, LOL) I take it from your comments that you never served in the military, or if you did, it was during the so-called "peace time". Let me tell ya something, being in any branch of the military is not a bucket of roses. Yes there were and are drugs present in the military. In the 70's, it was damn near the only way one could survive the day to day routine. Days that seemed to have more than 24 hours in them, the conditions, having to witness some things that you'd try anything to wipe from your memory all played a role in drug use. Like I said, I'm not condoning, but I understand it.

aransas yankee don't like hearing the truth about people who was or are in the military...... for they gave the ultimate ALL for their country...... he has also traveled the world and the seven seas but i doubt he has been to sw asia or the middle east where there was actual war....... i believe it was Nixon that actually started the war on drugs because of the drug problems our returning vets were having..........however if this young man is robbing people to get his drug money then joining the military where drugs are plentiful is really the only logical thing for him to do.

Kind of sad actually. All these young people throwing their lives away; for what? Bling and drugs? Stay in school. If you can't find a job or go to college when you get out of high school, join the military and learn something!

One of those must live in one out of ten houses in my neighborhood...I HAVE NO SYMPATHY NOR WOULD I HAVE ANY GUILT IF THEY ALL GOT SHOT. They are destined to wind up in jail anyway. WE NEED MORE POLICE AND CARS SO THEY CAN GET TO A CRIME WHILE IT IS IN PROGRESS.
