LITTLE ROCK, AR - Police say a man was stabbed to death in west Little Rock by a 15-year-old girl who said the man was attacking her mother.

"He just got to attacking everybody, punching everybody," Kim Caffey said, recalling Darrell Winfrey's actions early Thursday morning.

After dating eight years, Kim Caffey thought she knew Darrell Winfrey.  But she says he appeared different Thursday morning.

"He was looking like a monster, like he was in kill-mode," said Caffey.

Caffey says Winfrey grabbed her by the hair, dragged her outside in the yard and began beating her .

"You could tell he was intoxicated, and maybe even on some drugs," Caffey said.

Her children tried to rescue her.

"I kept telling everybody to go in the house but they wouldn't leave me out there with him," Caffey said.

After attacking one of her daughters, Caffey said her 15-year-old daughter came out with a knife, hoping to scare Winfrey away.

"All I saw was my daughter running and she stuck him in his back but I think at the same time she was sticking him he was coming up because from what I saw, she just barely tapped him," Caffey said.

LIttle Rock police say that tap eventually lead to Winfrey's death.

"I know it's going to bother her for the rest of her life," said Caffey.

"Are you thankful that your daughter was there?" I asked.

"Honestly, no. I'd rather probably gotten a broken arm or a beat up face before that happened to him. It sounds crazy because he's not a bad person. He has two personalities," said Caffey.

Caffey told us about previous episodes of domestic violence but she stuck by his side, feeling she served as his last hope.

"No matter how he treated me, I still was there for him because I knew he had a problem and I was the only one who cared," Caffey said.

No charges have been filed in the incident which is still under investigation.

Mom says she knew he had problems? Sorry for the girl who had to stab him it won't be easy for her. Why didn't the mom tell him to get professional help or leave??? That's right Ar. has an F on it's mental health ticket.. They could have known he had the capacity for this kind of violence. PLEASE folks don't try to help someone mentally ill yourself! This is horrible for those kids. Hope they all get professional help now.

She's wrong, he was a bad person..Good people don't go around beating on their girlfriend. She's lucky that he's dead now or it could have been her and her daughter that wound up 6 ft under..

Her comments about staying with him are almost identical to every victim who stays in an abusive relationship. It's always a sense of false hope. I pray the daughter and mother receive counseling and/or attend support groups. Pulaski County Judicial System, PLEASE help them. Don't let other victims down by not protecting and helping. Starting to lose faith in you all.

I agree with all of you. Whats sad about this situation is the mother needs help. No one can change another person!!!!!! She remained in a bad relationship because she felt sorry for the man and wanted to help him. Its our own responsibilty to get help and the people who love us need to support that. Its never ok to be in an abusive relationship and more so to subject your children to it. The mother should be thankful that her life and her kids lives are saved. He could have killed her kids instead of her, I hope while her life was saved she considers that and is grateful. I'm sure she is grateful even though she feels bad. The daughter is an amazing kid and should be given a metal of honor and bravery. Good job to her and I hope she stays with the mentality of NO ABUSE in her years to come and never lets a man or anyone abuse her. My prayers are with this family for peace of mind and strength to make positive decisions in the future.

I don't know of no child that will stand by and watch someone beat their mother or father. This child did only what she could to try and protect her mother. We are living in times, where the word NO is unacceptable and because some people cannot accept no, they think it's okay to bodily harm or even kill an individual. Our Judicial System stinks- there are no laws to protect anyone when you are trying to defend yourself. Law Enforcement can't be everywhere and as a woman or man we have to make a decision at that moment, either that person's life or mine.. Prayers go out to this young lady and her family.
