RUSSLLVILLE, AR— The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for killing a cat in Russellville, AR. to send a political message.

According to reports, on January 22, Jacob Burris, campaign manager for Congressional candidate Ken Aden, found his cat dead on his doorstep with the word "liberal" scrawled on his body. The adult, mix-Siamese cat had apparently been beaten to death.

Getting the serious attention of law enforcement, prosecutors and the community in cases involving allegations of cruelty to animals is an essential step in protecting the community. The connection between animal cruelty and human violence is well documented.

Studies show a correlation between animal cruelty and all manner of other crimes, from narcotics and firearms violations to battery and sexual assault.

"Viciously killing a cat to send a political message is shockingly cruel and is a crime that should be punished to the fullest extent of the law," said Ann Chynoweth, senior director of the Animal Cruelty, Rescue and Response Team for The Humane Society of the United States. "Our sympathies go out to the Burris family for the loss of their pet and we hope our reward helps catch whoever committed this heinous act of animal cruelty."

The Russellville Police Department is investigating. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call 479-968-3232.

O.K., Someone so evil as to bash an innocent cats head in and only scroll a word such as L I B E R A L on to it. I just don't see it. I could see a word like F___ or B____ but liberal? Think about it. While you're thinking about it watch the Burris interview. His body language suggests he is being untruthful. I'm not saying that he killed his own cat. He may be taking advantage of the cats untimely demise for political publicity.

keri, here is just a thought. Maybe they marked on the cat AFTER they killed it. Makes sense to me.

This story is as bogus as Morton Downey Jr's NAZI attack! Really? That cat was marked on where it lay when the photo was taken. Ever tried marking on cat fur? Near impossible. Maybe if they painted his cow I might believe it. Just a publicity stunt!

Harley, they will. It's called Karma. Wouldn't it be funny if Hitler was reincarnated as a Jew?

wouldn't it be funny if people who did this sort of thing would have to face their victims weather it be human or animal and have the same thing happen to them as they inflicted on their victims betcha a whole lot of that sorta stuff would stop.

Poor cat some people are so sick and disturbed its really ashamed that the one who did that will probably get probation instead of the beating that they gave the innocent cat.

Killing to make a political statement or intimidate opponents is terrorism, plain and simple.
