HOT SPRINGS, AR -- The bets were on in Hot Springs as big name jockeys like Gary Stephens and Mike Smith participated in the Arkansas Derby.
You know the Arkansas Derby is more than just about the races. It's a fashion statement, as many women sport their hats that come in different sizes, shapes, and colors.
New this year in the infield: Oaklawn leaders made it more family-friendly.
In that area in the past, attendants could just watch the races.
Now, there's live music, inflatable toys for kids, good food, and a great view of the races.
Officials said they want to make Oaklawn fun for everyone.
Leaders had to cancel some of this season's races due to rain, but they said it should not afffect their bottom line."It gives people more of an excuse to come. If you've never come to Oaklawn maybe there is something to attract you to come," said Jennifer Hoyt, Oaklawn's spokeswoman.
