ALMA, AR - Arkansas State Police say a trooper killed a man during a traffic stop. Investigators say the man attempted to overpower the Trooper after a brief chase.
The dead man is identified as 28 year old Christopher Wayne Snyder of Winslow. State police reports say Trooper Michael Bowman was patrolling highway 71 north of Alma at about 11:30 Saturday night when he stopped Snyder for speeding. They say after stopping his vehicle, Snyder fled on foot. A quarter-mile foot pursuit ended in the backyard of an abandoned mobile home.
Arkansas State Police say Snyder began choking Trooper Bowman when he attempted to handcuff him. Trooper Bowman managed to reach his handgun as Snyder moved on top of him during the ensuing fight. The Trooper fired striking Snyder who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Trooper Michael Bowman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and later released. He is on administrative leave pending review of an investigation into the deadly incident.
