Treasurer staffer asks for whistleblower status

The chief investment officer for the state treasurer's office has asked lawmakers whether she would be protected as a whistleblower while answering questions about why bonds were sold at a loss to the state.

I would think if you were in danger of losing your job the whistleblower status should apply. She (Sanson) said she advised against the way the State Treasurer was doing business but was unheeded.

I may be mistaken, but I was under the impression that whistleblower status is invoked when someone comes forward with info about illegal activity before being called to testify. Its designed to protect people who will be persecuted for doing the right thing. She either needs to plea bargain or refuse to testify due to self-incrimination.
