GREENWOOD, Ark. (AP) — A November trial has been scheduled for a Lavaca alderman charged with sexual indecency with a child and harassment.

A defense attorney entered not-guilty pleas Monday on behalf of 52-year-old Jack Woodrow James and waived formal arraignment. James faces felony and misdemeanor counts of sexual indecency with a child and misdemeanor harassment.

James was a social studies teacher at Lavaca Middle School and retired in May. Prosecutors claim that James asked several students to expose themselves to him.

The Southwest Times Record reports that James is scheduled for trial on the misdemeanor charges on Nov. 7. A preliminary hearing on the felony charge was set for the same day.

James was elected in 2010 as alderman for Ward 1 in Lavaca.
