Finally, a law enforcement agency with ethics and a willingness to make its officers abide by them. In recent months we've seen a PCSD deputy destroy private property and shove his girlfriend down, but get to keep his job, a Pine Bluff officer who left the scene of anaccident that blinded his son (but the investigation took over half a year to get to the truth), LRPD officers busted for drugs, West Memphis officers who ran a small syndicate, a LRPD officer busted for DWI (who then threatened the arresting officers) and the list continues unfortunately. We should hold ALL LEOs to a high level of professional and private standards. I can't understand why anyone would want a crooked cop, but don't worry all of you fans of Denny. He'll probably be hired on by some county or city where he's got friends. I think we should have a national data base with all fired officers listed on it so unsuspecting agencies don't hire a crook. Being a law enforcement officer means enforcing the law, not breaking it or ignoring it. How many times you wonder has Dyer had little "favors" done for him over the years?

I kind of feel bad for the trooper, he was just trying to give the guy a break. I'm just a regular person and I've been given a break before, would've felt bad if the cop would've lost his job over it. Mind you I wasn't going 97mph though...Dyer is a complete fool, going that fast with weed in his car, just stupid and shows no regard for anyone else on the road. The trooper should've just thrown the book at him..oh well, all roads to hell are paved with good intentions

Firing him was the right choice. Not charging someone with possession of a small amount of weed, not that big of a deal. But throw in the gun along with the weed along with doing 97 MPH, yeah, Dyer should have been arrested, the gun and weed confiscated and the car impounded. But Denny decided to NOT do his job, so he no longer HAS a job.

I stand corrected. I don't consider weed a drug. I have always thought it should be legalized. But Butch is right; drugs and a gun together - spells trouble. To those supporting the Trooper; have you read the letter of termination? I understand your point of view; I just don't agree with it. Consider this - if you were pulled over with the same things, and you were not one of AR's favorite sons ( a well known football player in this instance ), would the Trooper have let you go? I don't think so. Butch, been there also. Got pulled over in Tucson in '75 while smoking a joint; he let me go. In 82, just fired one up when I went around a curve and ran into a roadblock; had to eat it, cop let me go. BUT - I wasn't speeding, didn't have a gun, and wasn't doing anything else wrong. Tucson is a little more liberal when it comes to weed, and the 82 incident in El Paso, TX; he no longer had the evidence, unless he wanted my stomach pumped. Did you have a happy birthday? Sorry you couldn't cook out and enjoy those 5 30 packs.

I'm not to messed up about the pot. But when you put the gun with it I get a little bent. I've been let shake out a bag in the 80's. It's not that bad. I just can't get over the gun and drugs together. That spells trouble.

Well at least Trooper Denny tried to help Dyer. All this trooper was doing was trying to do was give him a second chance. Trooper Dyer could have been dirty, but he chose to step up a notch and help. I hope ASP will open another investigation for Trooper Denny. Dyer, the reason you are off the team because you can't for some reason keep a clean record. Let this be a lesson to you Dyer - this trooper put his job on the line for you and this is the Thanks that he get. ASP give Trooper Denny another chance.

After reading the letter to terminate, I have to say he deserved to be fired. He broke the law when he took the weapon and not reporting it. He broke the law by not busting Dyer for weed. He brought shame to the ASP by his conduct. And this wasn't the first disciplinary action against him. Seems he's had this problem before. I think if one reads the letter to terminate, most would agree with the punishment. It's one thing to let someone go if their plates are expired a few days, if they've gone over the speed limit a few MPH; but drugs and a weapon ( unregistered? stolen? ) is an entirely different matter.
