FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) — A Greenwood man has been arrested for allegedly driving a dump truck through a gate at the 188th Air National Guard Base at Fort Smith Regional Airport and onto the airport tarmac.

Police Cpl. Steven Dooly said Friday that officers found 49-year-old Darl Eugene Wilson near the airport terminal after the truck was driven onto a taxiway and crashed into a ditch Thursday night.

Dooly says Wilson was treated for minor injuries — then taken to the Sebastian County Detention Center. Dooly declined to discuss a motive but said there is no indication Wilson intended to hurt anyone.

Dooly did not know if Wilson had an attorney and said he will likely appear in court next week on a felony charge of impairing the operation of a vital public facility.
