GOULD, AR – Two brothers of a Gould city councilwoman have been arrested in connection to the attack of Gould Mayor Earnest Nash.

Don and DeCarlos Smith were arrested Wednesday afternoon by the Arkansas State Police. Don faces 1st degree battery charges, DeCarlos faces 3rd degree battery charges. Both are brothers of Councilwoman Rosieanna Smith.

Mayor Earnest Nash says he was pistol whipped the afternoon of August 4th.

Nash and the Gould City council have been at odds with each other since the new council members took office in January. The day Nash was attacked was the same day that a lawsuit was filed challenging the eligibility of two council members to serve.

The small Arkansas town garnered national attention when they passed an ordinance prohibiting citizens from meeting within the city limits. That ordinance, along with two others, was repealed Wednesday night during a city council meeting. The meeting was heavily attended by residents and the Arkansas State Police.

You can't honestly believe that Gould is the only town in the state like this. I thank GOD for this mayor having the courage to stand and his family. I'm sure there are plenty of good citizen's in Gould that have been under the thumb of people like these. I know for a fact we have several more towns I have seen this kind of stuff in. Hopefully the Troopers , ATF, FBI and DEA start looking into the rest of our cities and COUNTIES. I have lived in a few other states in my life and have never seen such flagrant abuse of power that goes on in this state. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with being in-bred or ignorant. In is the uncontrolled egotistical abuse of power. They have been doing it this way for so long it has become the quid pro quo. Terrorists at every level and nothing in their way. Tommy Robinson was the best sheriff Pulaski ever had. He couldn't stand it alone though. J.O. Isaac was the best in Lonoke [runner up Charlie Miller]. If we get so blessed as to have some of it cleaned up for us it will take us. GOOD LAW OFFICERS HAVE TO HAVE CONSISTANT AND COURAGEOUS CITIZEN'S TO BACK THEM UP. It's up to us as citizen's to start standing our ground against the criminals in or out of uniforms. We can make a difference if we ALL stand together. Arkansas is a beautiful state in fact one of the most beautiful of all. Those who are unemployed or needy are NOT all bums. You can still be of service in your community. Be the watch dogs for your neighborhoods. Those that are blessed with jobs could go to work knowing there's a eye out for them. We just have to get past socio-economic, racial and fear lines. It's almost too late but I faith in my fellow Arkansan's that we can do this and maybe even become a model for other states with these same problems. Our mental health system is archaic and those with mental diseases are fed to the criminals like snacks. It takes us ALL. GOD BLESS ARKANSAS!!!!!!

The two brotha's of the sister who is a city council member! What does that tell you? Sounds like the sister might have a small part in the assault, might have to look more deeply into the matter. Small town problems seem to get bigger every passing day, the laws of Gould are the councils laws. I'm ashamed of this town getting national attention, its a disgrace to Ar. But what do you expect from these people. WP
