JACKSONVILLE, AR – Jacksonville Police have arrested and charged two men in connection to the armed robbery of the Jones Food Mart on Saturday.
Arrested are 18-year-old Derek “Ant” Walton and 17-year-old Derec Briggs, who is charged as an adult.
According to the police report, the Jones Food Mart at 3701 North Street was robbed at gunpoint by two young men. The store employee tells police that the thieves stole cash and cigarettes.
At Briggs’ house, according to the police report, investigators found the handgun believed to be used in the robbery and an unopened pack of cigarettes matching the description of those stolen from the store.
Police say that both Briggs and Walton admitted to the crime. They are charged with aggravated robbery and theft of property, both felonies. Additionally, Briggs was charged with possession of a handgun by a minor, a misdemeanor.
