JACKSONVILLE, AR – Jacksonville Police have arrested and charged two men in connection to the armed robbery of the Jones Food Mart on Saturday.

Arrested are 18-year-old Derek “Ant” Walton and 17-year-old Derec Briggs, who is charged as an adult.

According to the police report, the Jones Food Mart at 3701 North Street was robbed at gunpoint by two young men. The store employee tells police that the thieves stole cash and cigarettes.

At Briggs’ house, according to the police report, investigators found the handgun believed to be used in the robbery and an unopened pack of cigarettes matching the description of those stolen from the store.

Police say that both Briggs and Walton admitted to the crime. They are charged with aggravated robbery and theft of property, both felonies. Additionally, Briggs was charged with possession of a handgun by a minor, a misdemeanor.

FYI: I know the Briggs kid and his mother and she by no means sits on the couch hitting a pipe while collecting a check. She is a very hard working mother and has to raise her children and work to provide. Cant say much good for the Walton boy but what is done is done noone was murdered. And for those who want to "assume" how about you become a mentor instead of a judger of what you dont know.

By the way his mother is far from lazy she is a well respected military woman andyou will not blame her for the decisions her child makes on his own. Before you open your mouth, do your research.

Y'all don't even know what you're talking about. Why do you feel the need to judge these boys. Unlike you I actually know them. I can't say much good for Briggs but Walton is an incredible person. He has so much potential all he needs is better guidance. Instead of sitting on your butt and complaining about the world get up and be the motivation for a positive change because I guarantee your criticism of them or their parents for that matter does absolutely no good.

committing armed robbery is like an adventure for thugs like these. The risk of being caught is well worth it in their minds b/c they know they'll just get a slap on the wrist.

How many juveniles need to continuously commit these crimes before congress rethinks the removal of prayer/punishment in the class rooms? I have to have a daily reprieve and I'm a grandmother, I can get off track as easily as the next person,but you live what you learn, if your not taught moral standards you wont live by them, Society wants to point out things and put them in separate boxes.....well this is another fine mess!..smh
